I filmed this at Buffalo Bay in Knysna, whilst staying there for the weekend in celebration of a friend’s birthday and our fifth wedding anniversary. I thought it was quite an apt setting, given the lyrics! (P.S. My iPhone cut out towards the end of filming, hence the fadeout!)

Cuan and I have been singing this song together for almost as long as we’ve known each other. We even sang it at our own wedding. I kinda feel like we should’ve written it, because if I had ten cents for every time someone has believed it to be our song (despite us going to great lengths to explain otherwise) I’d probably have rand, or thereabouts.

I love reinterpreting classics. There’s something very satisfying about singing old songs! This is a reinterpretation of a reinterpretation, and features the lovely Cuan Korsten on guitar.

I can’t believe it’s been nine years since I wrote this song. I was staying at my aunt and uncle’s house in London during the Easter holiday, and penned it whilst sitting at their kitchen table. I was fifteen years old at the time, and had no idea that the song would one day receive radio play in three different countries and be play-listed on two of South Africa’s most popular stations! So kids, keep creating things that you’re passionate about, because a) it’s good for the soul, and b) you never know where those creations will take you.

Sarah McLachlan’s songs are really fun to sing. Hopefully it’s equally fun for you to listen to me singing them! Then fun will be had by all!
