At the risk of sounding pretentious, I was really feeling this one. I relate to this song so much. Life is a lesson in letting go, and death is the ultimate surrender.

Today’s video features two special guests: Cuan Korsten on guitar and Carl Gibbings on cajon. We had a blast filming this, as you’ll see if you watch the whole thing. (Spoiler alert: there’s a gag reel at the end!) Enjoy! 🙂

If this song had been around before Cuan and I got married, I’m sure we would’ve had our first dance (or something) to it. It’s just about the cutest love song I can think of – it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside! 🙂

This is my favourite song of all time, written by my favourite songwriter of all time, Jon Foreman. I’ve spent some time pondering why this song maintains the top spot in my list, even seven years after the first time I heard it. It’s a relatively simple song – short, sweet and not especially cryptic. But it has an honesty an and earnestness that resonates with me. It might sound crazy, but I feel like this song knows me better than I know myself. It articulates the deepest longings of my heart in a way that I can’t. It has been a close friend to me during some of the darkest times of my life, and I don’t think I’ll ever tire of listening to it.

Video 5 of 30: Starting Today (Original Song)

I wrote Starting Today just over two years ago, for friends of mine back in England who were getting married. These particular friends have been very supportive of my music, and writing this song for their special day was my way of saying thank you!

“Starting Today”
(Jamie and Claire’s Song)

It starts today
I’ve been waiting so long to stand here and say

That my love will hold
Through the seasons ahead, while we’re young and when we are old
Through hot and through cold

Take my hand
We don’t need to run to some faraway land
‘Cause when you’re with me
Yeah, this battered and broken old world’s good enough for me
The good’s all I see

CHORUS:
And the words that are said here today
Mark the start of the journey we’ll make
And of all God’s people, it’s you that I take
Starting today

We’re not the same
I am like fire and you are like rain
But we’re one today
We are melded together, with no room for guilt or for blame
Only grace

CHORUS

Today the vows that we give
Mark the start of the promise we’ll live
And I’ll love, hope, trust and always forgive

CHORUS
